Antique Indian conclusion behind the distance between sun and earth

At so many times Indian prolegomena shows how developed techniques were exist. So many techniques, tricks were given in the books, poems which shows the developed knowledge of astronomy, mathematics and architecture also. Our last post was about the architecture of ‘Taj Mahal’. The new post is about the how Indian techniques was developed in astronomy and mathematics. This post is about the distance measured between sun and earth when no advanced techniques was developed .

According o the Arya’s mythology in the ‘Ramayana’ Hanuman helps to the Ram to release the Seeta from Ravan and also for the war between Ram and Ravan. However it was written that Hanuman is most powerful God who tries to swallow the sun. We don’t know it was truth or myth but the story was written in ‘Hanuman Chalisa’ also. It is the prolegomena about Hanuman. The example is given in the way of poem as follows:

“Yug sahastra yojan per bhanu

Leelyo taahi madhur phal janu.”

 The meaning of the line sare as follows:

Yug , sahstra , yojan are the measuring units which are the given below. The word Bhanu means by the Sun. I the Sanskrit language the word Bhanu mean by the Sun. leelyo mean by the taking or taken. Madhur is word which mean by the sweet .taahi mean by you . phal mean by the fruit and jaanu is used as pronoun. The  meaning of lines are Hanuman understand the sun is sweet fruit and he is going to take it to swallow.

Now looking towards the units :

Yug=12000

Sahstra=1000

Yojan= 1yojan is equal to 8 miles by Indian technique of measurement.

If we multiply them then we get,

Yug *Sahstra * Yojan = Bhanu

12000*1000*8=96000000miles.

1mile=1.6kms

96000000*1.6=153000000km.

As per the NASA the distance between the sun and the earth is the 149600000km which is closer to the distance between measured in the ‘Hanuman Chalisa’. In the miles it is the 92900000 miles measured by the NASA.

We get that the distance measured is too close to the NASA’s conclusion. How was it possible to the measure where no instruments were available at that time.  It’s just a wonder!!!…
